I&C Techinist/Machinist/CNC Technition (3 separate positions

Senior Mechanical/Machinist/CNC Technician Position

 

Space Propulsion Group is a research and development corporation specializing in the design, development, and testing of advanced space propulsion technologies. 

 

SPG is seeking Senior Mechanical/Machinist/CNC Technicians to support its Butte, Montana research and development operation. This position requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience as a Mechanical Technician and/or Machinist. Travel will be rare. There will be overtime during test campaigns.

 

SPG is looking for multiple full-time and/or part-time candidates. A combination of Machinist, Mechanical and I&C/Electronics Technician skills will be considered. The successful candidate must possess a valid Driver’s License and be able to perform all assigned tasks in a safe manner. They must have demonstrated success in previous jobs as a team player. 

 

The Machinist/Mechanical Technician must have experience in the following areas:

  • Experience in using a CNC mill in a research and development environment.

  • Able to program tool paths in MasterCam or equivalent.

  • Able to read and review sketches and drawings.

  • Able to setup and operate a mill using knowledge of materials and appropriate tool selection.

  • Knowledge in various materials.

  • Ability to build one-of-a-kind items (parts, jigs, etc.) as well as modify existing items using blueprints, sketches, verbal description, other parts, etc. to build the parts.

  • Knowledge and experience with precision measurement and the use of hand and power tools.

  • Able to construct, maintain, and test mechanical equipment, machinery, and components. Ability to troubleshoot and repair machinery, including ordering of necessary components.

  • Able to write, review, and follow Standard Operating Procedures

  • Ability to take general direction and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. 

  • Ability to follow directions and ask questions when necessary.

  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude in completing a task is required and it is expected that the applicants expertise in his/her job skills be shared with other team members.

  • Must rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals by established deadlines.

  • Experience in a test and evaluation facility is a plus.

  • HAZWOPR certification is a plus.

  • Experienced in and/or knowledge of assembling high pressure systems, including tubing, fittings, regulators, valves, etc.

  • Able to multi-task, performing a wide variety of complicated jobs that may involve mechanical, electrical/electronics, machining, fabricating, and construction of high pressure systems.

  • Technician maintains the facility (Keep it clean and orderly).

  • Support the engineering team in the fabrication of the machines (casting machines, etc.), conducting tests, fabrication of fuel grains and all the other activities required for the technical projects.

  • The following are useful skills:

    • Machining

    • Welding

    • Hoisting/Forklift operation

    • Basic electrical knowledge

    • Overall hands on skills

    • Experience in a test and evaluation facility is a plus.

    • HAZWOPR certification is a plus.

  • Per ITAR regulations, all employees must be US citizens.

 

 

This position reports to a supervisor or manager.

Machinist/Mechanical Technician (Entry Level)

SPG is seeking an entry level Mechanical/Machinist Technician to support its Butte, Montana research and development operation. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience as a Mechanical Technician and/or Machinist. Travel will be rare.  There will be overtime during test campaigns.

 

SPG is looking for multiple full-time and/or part-time candidates. A combination of Machinist, Mechanical and I&C/Electronics Technician skills will be considered. The Machinist/Mechanical Technician must have experience in the following areas:

·                     Able to identify parts or machines that require repair or replacement.  

·                     Able to place part orders as necessary.

·                     Able to perform preventative maintenance procedures on equipment.

·                     Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.

·                     Knowledge of assembling high pressure systems, including tubing, fittings, regulators, valves, etc.

·                     Takes direction from lead personnel.

·                     Performs a variety of complicated tasks.

·                     Ability to follow directions and ask questions when necessary.

·                     Able to multitask.

·                     Able to read sketches and drawings.

·                     Able to redline sketches and drawings as needed.

·                     Able to write and review Standard Operating Procedures

·                     Able to follow Standard Operating Procedures.

·                     Able to troubleshoot.

·                     Must be flexible and resourceful in performing assigned tasks.

·                     Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.

·                     May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty.

·                     CNC programming and/or operating capabilities a plus.

·                     Requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in the field or in

a related area.
